No More From Virgin - Where Next?

I have just finished my second 0% period with Virgin. Called today to try for a third (was promised one a few weeks ago) but no chance, best they could offer was 2.9%. Tried to call their bluff and close account, I lost!
So,got a Mint card with 0% untill Nov 1 then again from Jan 1st till July 1st. Is there any other card i should be looking at now? Should I wait until the Virgin card is on the credit agency files as being closed (had a 14K limit) before trying for another card?
On a related matter, my Mint 0% ends as i say, on 1st Nov. My statement date is the 12th of the month so does that mean I have until the time payment would be due in December (statment would be raised 12/11) to clear the account or should that be cleared by the November payment date?

You should make a payment to clear the balance owed about 5 working days before the 1st November so that it has cleared by then.
They will start charging interest from day 1 so if you wait for the November statement you will be charged!0 -
Thanks for that. I wondered because Virgin let you off until the payment is due after the period ends, glad I asked!!0

If you're hoping to use Mint cheques for SBT, watch out, as i believe they are phasing these out soon.Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery0

Yeah, according to the leaflet I got last month, any cheque dated after 30th Sept will not be honoured. I think that varies from person to person depending on whn you got your card.0

* It's actually the statement date following the payment due date (which is generally a few days after the payment due date).Beancounter wrote:Thanks for that. I wondered because Virgin let you off until the payment is due* after the period ends, glad I asked!!
No, it's now policy, and applies to all customers.I think that varies from person to person depending on whn you got your card.
Key details:- Mint will cease to issue cheques from 1 September 2006.
- Stoozers can continue to issue cheques until 30 September 2006.
- Any cheques dated prior to 1 October 2006, if presented for payment before 1 April 2007, will be honoured.
- Any cheques dated after 30 September will not be paid by Mint when presented for payment, regardless of whether you have sufficient available credit on your account.

So, I paid off all the not inconsiderable balance on my Virgin credit card and asked them politely to cancel the entire account and a week later..... they send me a new statement with, indeed, a credit for the entire amount paid off - in time - but a demand for £54.28 in interest.
What have I done wrong? I paid by the due date - 14 July, compared to a deadline of 25 July - then on 27 July they're charging me interest. Have I missed something? Can someone enlighten me, please? I'm very, very annoyed. Thieves!0 -
How long should I wait for the £14K credit limit from my closed Virgin card to be taken off my records before applying for another card? I ask as I need another card to transfer my Mint balance mid October.0

So when the cheques i ordered last week arrive i simply have to date them all at before 1st of Oct 06? And they'll be credited as long as i use them by April Fool's Day 07?
I think that might mean i can sneak some into my anniversary type period. Will have to check...Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery0 -

For some weeks now, Mint have claimed they have problems printing the cheques, so there may be a delay before your cheques arrive, but yes you should be okay.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
I may be wrong, but couldn't there be some problems if you didn't have the 'available' credit on the date on the cheque?Moggles wrote:...but yes you should be okay.
A little like writing a current account cheque when you know, at the time of writing, that you don't have sufficient funds to cover it perhaps?0
