Been looking around for a newish car (as in used mainly) for around £6k that will be diesel (need something that'll run on bio-fuels in the not so distant future!) and will have enough room in the back for some icelandic tents and perhaps tow a canoe trailer (not at the same time!)

Any recommendations or thoughts?
Tim

you want a nice big car but cheap - there is loads, octavia is a nice car. go for an estate - you have several nice options. newish car for £6k - Volvo, mercedes, bmw - all possible to get them 5 years old for about that price - depends on where you look. other cars i would say would be a mondeo - nice big car, nice to drive and nice interier - big aswell.

have a look on autotrader.co.uk for big estates and mind - dont take the first car you see, have a look around ;)

oh yeh - and stay away from dealers, they will hammer you

also - look at LPG cars as they are really nice to own.

  • Tim,
I don't know how many other bio fuels are available but the system I use on a Ford Transit Van at the moment uses petrol to start the engine and then switches over to LPG. I don't think you can use diesel with LPG. I also run a Skoda Octavia and find it a lovely motor.

Did look at mercedes but I noticed that the insurance bracket is insane for my age whereas the octavia is very similar to my fiesta - only about £30 difference! Will probably still go have a look at a few. Just going out tonight to see if I can find an octavia to sit in - I'm a bit tall so that influences my choices really = )

God bless skodas image - not many boy racers seemingly want to drive Skodas...

I've had a Fabia Vrs for a couple of years and can't fault it. I'm having another next year.

Went to my recommended garage, they didn't have anything worthy in stock, the guy also insulted me by saying my fiesta (worth over £2k privately, or 1.7k trade in) was worth £500! it's only six years old!

    pfff

Looks like I've got the extra hassle of doing a private sale now, and they've still got to find the right model for me :- (
