you need to remove the side shoots. it's the extra stem that grows between the main stem and the shoot. like so,

Confusedroast, if you want more tomatoe plants 4 free remove the side shoots very carfuly and pot the biggest 1's on,they will droop to start with but will pick up soon + give fruit 2-3 weeks later than parent plant, that's what i did last year with some of my plants.

It really depends on which type of tomato you are growing. If it is an indeterminate type for the greenhouse, yes, take off the side shoots.
However, if it is a bush determinate type, then leave the side shoots on.
Do you know the name of the tomato?

    Hi
I'm bumping this thread because it didn't make sense to start a new one.
I'd like to repot my Marmande tomatoes today as i have 5 ranging in height from 1.5 inches to 3.5 inches together in a 4 inch pot & im starting to see the roots through the bottom of the pot.
What size pot would they individually be best to go in to please & do the stems need to be partly/mainly buried up to the true leaves as i've read conflicting advice & OP has asked this also on another thread yet with no response.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Put each 1 in 2 a 4inch pot 4 now, as 4 the roots bit a tomatoe plant will send out extra roots from the main stem if its under ground, so if you want to just pot on and firm down to just under first set of leaves the plants will be quite happy. hope it helps.
