Calendula seeds can be sown outside as can all other hardy annuals. They will then seed themselves and there will be no need to buy seed next year. They are so simple to sow outdoors.Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0

As bromsgrovebarry you don't need to sow them inside.
Last year I had a great display (until a damn fox dug them up) of Marigolds that I had directly sown to fill places in a flower bed. I also directly sowed them in other places.
Sow them in late May/June and depending on where you are in the they will last until October/November when you get severe frost.
If you let them got to seed you can have hybrids to sow next year.
Oh and Lidl also sell the seeds.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
 (If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0

Still a mite early to put even calendula out yet, the ground is still pretty cold.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I bought English Marigolds from ebay, as plug plants. 60 for £2.95 per 20, so not too bad! plus postage. If i see seeds I may put some in, but definitely would like English Marigolds, not the african or french variety0

If you do grow them from seed remember, not all seeds germinate at the same rate and others will come up later, so don't throw the compost away.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
