car deposit help!

hi all some advice please! My son saw a car he liked in a local car dealers, he was advised by the salesman to put a £250 deposit on it as others were interested in the car. He was advised if after talking to us (parents) or he wasnt happy with the finance he could have the deposit back. We went back to look at car and started the proceedings for finance, the finance company declined our son on his own and asked if we would be guarantor, which we said we would then they came back with repayments that meant over 4 years he would have paid nearly double for the car! so we declined and asked if we could leave it and have the deposit back after 3 days of palming us off they have now said no he cant have deposit back but can have half back in a credit note! we dont want any more dealings with this company so the credit note is a waste of time. Are they in their right to not give back the deposit? When myself and oh were in there a salesman told us the 250 would be reimbursed if we decided against the car. Please advise

You entitled to the deposit minus any administration costs which have got to be justifiable.0

You are entitled to your deposit back as this is what you was advised on. Normally a deposit is forfitted when you no longer want the service/product. Did your son keep a note of the sales mans name?
Nearly double in four years :OLearning to be 'good with money'0
