Cheapest way from Newcastle to London

I need to travel to London from Newcastle on the 5th September (any time) and return back on the evening of the 7th - or, if its cheaper to stay in a hotel one more night, any time on the 8th.
I was hoping to book a National Express funfare, but there doesn't seem to be one for those dates. Do you have to book closer to the day of travel for funfares, or will the offer be finishing next month?
The train would be ideal - but I'm on a very, very tight budget (so tight a non-funfare coach ticket is too expensive). Can you get a train or flight for two people to london for next to nothing? I've been told there are dirt cheap plane tickets, but I can't find any.
I tried the Megabus for a trip to london a few months ago, but that nearly killed me (ok so thats an exaggeration, but heat stroke isn't fun)- no comfort breaks, and broken aircon on both the outward and the return journeys. If its the only option then I could do it again I guess, but is there another coach company with megabus style fares that actually lets you get off the coach for half an hour somewhere during the journey?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Eastern airways fly to London City and i think the total will be about £200 for the two of you - I've priced that on departing on 5th Sept on the 1335 flight and coming back on 7th on the 1940 flight.
BA however would come in at £180.40 which may surprise you
Outbound BA1327 Newcastle upon Tyne,United Kingdom Heathrow
Tue 5 September 2006 Depart Newcastle 12:05 Arrive Heathrow 13:15
Inbound BA1332 Heathrow (London),United Kingdom Newcastle upon
Thu 7 September 2006 depart Heathrow 11:40 arrive Newcastle 12:50
The BA flight can be got for £40 cheaper if you come back the next day on a not so busy flight but really dont think you can get a hotel in London for the £400 -
£75.96 for 2 adults flying with Easyjet from Newcastle to Stansted 5th-7th September.

Or from Teeside airport to Gatwick
5th-7th September
Total for 2 adults £55.86

Go to this site http://www.gner.co.uk/GNER and click at the very top "single tickets"
Scroll to bottom of page and put in your dates then click on "2 singles may be cheaper"
There are at least 3 trains on 5/9 sept at about 2pm for £10 one way
Coming back on the 7th there are two trains at 9am and 9-30am for £10 single.
£20 return which can`t be bad.
You will have to register on the site to buy tickets.

Thanks
Thats very cheap! I hope those fares will still be available in a couple of days time. I don't travel very well at the moment, and a train would be a lot more comfortable than a coach. DFW Nerd No. 140

Not being funny but most people actually say thanks(doesnt have to be the thanks button just a simple thanks for all to see) to all members who have posted a reply not just the one post you like.Remember people are taking time out to answer your post in the first place and manners cost nothing."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -

You won`t get better than £20 return ANYWHERE0 -
Please accept my apologies - I honestly didn't see the other responses - my health isn't the greatest these days and it is affecting my concentration and attention span. I didn't mean to offend anyone, just not with it at the moment.
The help is appreciated.DFW Nerd No. 140
