Cold water not working....any ideas?

Hi,

We had our dishwasher on earlier, then it started making a hell of a noise. This stopped itself, but now when the cold water taps are turned on, the pressure is extremely low and gets lower before eventually stopping.

This is happening up and downstairs, but the tap in the back yard is working fine.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what has gone wrong? Do you reckon it'll be an expensive repair?

Thanks.

yea it is both. The kitchen tap is the only tap that has a short flow to start off with and it slowly goes. Upstairs doesn't even make a trickle.

If your kitchen tap is plumbed in the correct manner (ie: first appliance/outlet & link from the internal stopco ck.) your problem is a blockage/fault in the pipe between the kitchen tap & from where the water comes from.

EG: Faulty internal stop co ck, faulty external stop co ck, break (or blockage) in the pipe between these or before the external stopco ck & therefore a supply issue (water companies).

If your neighbours don't have the same problem it is between the external stopco ck to your kitchen tap.

However, if the dishwasher or washing machine is plumbed in before (below) you kitchen tap it could be a faulty valve/washer blocking the supply as well as any of the above.

It's likely to be bad plumbing in my opinion then after what you've said. The plumber only put the dishwasher in last week and he took 3 days to do it, and had to completely change the way he'd done it in the first place after another dude came and told him to change it.

    Thanks for your help.

    More than likely.

It's definately under the sink or out of your house.

    Hi

Some kind of pressure reducing device on the incoming main has failed? Stopcock fitted the wrong way round?
I would suggest the dishwasher is fitted with an anti flood device which is fitted in line with the inlet hose but the problem is with all the taps so not likely to be that . I would be starting from scratch with a decent plumber. Is there one from the CIPHE in your area?

    Is this a newish property?

If so the main non-return valve after the stop !!!! may have stuck.

God knows how it took 3 days to fit a dishwasher.

3 Hours would be way too long!
