keyboard fault

had phone call from daughter ,her keyboard on pc has one row not working [ do not know which ] also when starts to type some domains , the bar is full of ''gobbleguke'' , thats all info I could obtain as she is not 'techie'
any advice appreciated , the other day gave her a couple of programs to instal ,ccleaner and spybot ,says started to install then stopped.the problem was there before I gave her the programs.

USB keyboard? unplug it and replug into a different port...

Buy a new keyboard, they are only a few quid.

Keyboards do fail over time and need replacing - the other thing is to give it a good clean - you may find it full of crumbs - if a drink has been spilt on it, then it is likely to need replacing.

It is unlikely to be software related, unless she has changed the language on her PC to chinese or similar!

Possible causes

• Bad USB connection (Unplug and reconnect / try another port)
• Spyware (let them run the cleaners and reboot)
• Bad drivers (reboot computer, press F8 choose safe mode and test)
• Faulty keyboard (keyboard membrane knackered, try cleaning if not bin it)
• Language packs (type info in notepad, check keyboard language in bottom says UK)

urgh I had to take apart my student sister's laptop once for a motherboard/power socket resolder. The horrors I found in there left me scarred for life...... :eek:
