Halifax ATM changes

Just got a letter from Halifax explaining that they are 'updating' how their ATMs work following the merger with Lloyds. Some really backward steps here I think:

- No longer able to pay bills at an ATM
- No longer able to transfer money between Halifax accounts at an ATM
- Mini statements will show less transactions that before
- Time taken before ATM deposits starting earning interest increased

The only good point is that cash and cheques paid in at an ATM will now clear quicker.

Full details here: http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/atm-changes.asp

This is all part of Lloyds Banking Groups integration programme for the former HBOS business, called BETTERtogether. The idea behind the scheme is that the bank will identify which of the two brands (Lloyds TSB and HBOS) do things better then use the 'one best way' for all customers of the group. Sounds great, but I'm struggling to see how these changes could be called better?!

It is to increase security and prevent errors.

    No longer pay bills
-This will reduce the amount of errors people make using the ATMs, so the details will be checked either over the phone or on the internet.

No longer transfer money between accounts
    - Increases security so only money in current account is available at an ATM.
