Ugly Storage Heaters

I have recently moved house and have got some really ugly storage heaters installed. I cant afford to install central heating at the moment but these heaters really are eyesores. Does anyone know if you can use traditional radiator covers ( the wooden ones ) with these.

Thanks very much

cant see why not as long as they fit. Both types of heaters radiate heat in
    basically the same way.

Id be a bit cautious if you are doing this - a lot of storage heaters have a thermostat inside which trips the power off if they overheat.

You have to take the cover off to reset the switch and its a messy awkward job.

So you would need to make sure there is plenty of clearance so the heat doesnt build up.

Storage heaters are bigger than ordinary radiators and the normal ready made covers may not be big enough to give good clearance. Or you may have to modify them so theres no obstruction, particularly at the top.
  • What about painting them - Is that an option for me if I used the special metal paint?

dunno if this would apply to you but if you claim tax credits you may be entitled to a grant towards pat or the full cost of central heating installation. If you check out

you can find out if you're eligible, then you can just get rid of the storage heaters!
