Pink Card

Options
I have just been sent through a pink card confirming that my child is registered as disabled, but what does the card do? Am I supposed to do anything with it. Help appreciated. Thanks

Is this a local registration (with your council), or is it the blindness register? There is no longer a national register for disability per se.

If local, the card will act as proof of disability and enable you to get discounts/ free entry etc.
    Gone ... or have I?

I have the same card and I use it for discounts when my BB is in use on my car as proof of disability.

Its rare today to be issued cards but I have 2, one for registed disabled and one for registed deaf.

Thanks, its issued by my local council, my son is autistic, what sort of discounts can you get with it? I don't have a blue badge for my car - only get DLA at middle rate so don't think we are eligible but this card coming was a bit of a surprise.

you can use it for for theme parks or anywhere else that offers disability/carers discounts because your card is proof of disability and it saves you carrying your childs DLA letter around with you.

For cinemas you do need to have a CEA card, the pink card isnt valid.

I also find (I have completely different disabilities) it does help when asking for assistance. My disabilities aren't obvious in the slightest.

Thanks for that, what is a CEA card?

    Details here:

    http://www.ceacard.co.uk/

It allows a carer free admission to most cinemas with the disabled person.

Thanks for that, have printed off my application for the ceacard, just need to get a photograph now to go with it, shame I hadn't known about it before as I am taking my son to the cinema on Monday, never mind, it will come in useful the next time.
