Hi

I have decide which new car to buy a Toyota aygo, base modle but 5 doors as I have children.

Been without a car since before xmas so seems silly? not to wait until new reg?

List price is £6980- but have been told that i should be able to get this down to around £6500.This is list price for july. But if i go into dealership today, what will the price be for a new reg?

Sorry but never bought a new car before, but from what i can gather when i come to sell, if a buy a 06plate in aug 06 it will be worth less-approx £500 than a sept 06 56 plate?

Thanks
April Grocery challange £175

Spent week 1 £29.90
week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.54

in the next 3/4 years an 06 will be worth less than a 56 - not much, but its a point worth considering and is a bargaining tool if you go for an 06 plate.

However, if u where to buy ther car late august - and depending on if the dealer had his targets still to hit - you could probably get the price down to around £5800.

Alternativly, wait till december/january - which is the best time to buy a new car as showrooms are empty.

One point of caution on your choice.

the Aygo is the exact same as the C1 and 107.

You can pick up c1 vibe 5 door for £5800 at the moment, with little or no hastle negotiating.

Plus - apply the same idea of going to a dealership just before septmeber and I reckon you can get a 5 door for £5500.

Dont forget - not all dealerships will still need to hit their targets so shop around.

But dont buy in Septmeber - its the best time for them - and why buy toyota when the same car can be had for a grand less but carries a french badge?

Normally I would always choose toyota over citroen - but this is the one and only exception to the rule.

I was looking at the C1, but what car wsay Toyota will hold value better.

Also I rang around asking what 3 years servicing will cost, Toyota £319.43 and Citroen £655.

So to me the Toyota seemed a better bet.

Do you think I could get the C1 from a local dealer for £5800? at £700 less than the citroen it would out weigh the servicing.

    Thanks

If you plan to keep the car for a few years, then buy in late august on an 06 plate and you will get it cheaper as has been said.

I think the out of the 3 cars 107/aygo/C1 the C1 is the worst seller, so more potential for a bigger discount form the citroen garage.

Just get prices for all 3 if there are dealers in your area, and play them off against each other :)

Thanks albertross, but not sure about buying online, think I would be better off with a dealer. I know it may cost me more, but online does not seem to be that much cheaper.

  • Citroen are about to put a new 1st August price list out this afternoon.....and the dealers have all had new back-end bonuses given to them today which also affect the on-the-road prices that can be offered - so Citroen pricing may well all change after the new pricing has been assessed today...we'll be getting the new pricing calculated for around 4pm today hopefully...so bide your time!

The new August price list will be valid for orders placed this month and delivered by end Sep' probably.

The Toyota will have the better re-sale value (and build quality) than the C1, and C1 is superior on re-sale value to the Peugeot 107 - which is not selling that well.

'Buying online' means either buying a car on the 'net OR using a good internet broker (!!) who gets high volume discounts from normal dealers and allows you to transact direct with one of those dealers using their discounts - you're always going to get a better price using a broker who is passing hundreds of sales a month through to dealers, than trying to negotiate with a retail showroom salesman for one car purchase.
