 anyone else had problems when Bradford & Bingley changed to Santander...?? seems they activated old direct debits..and sent them out. We had B&B account about 15 yrs ago, presumed it was closed. Now have £70 charges on this (we thought closed) account

Nothing would surprise me any more with those idiots at Santander.
Surely if the account hadn't been used for years it would have been locked as "dormant"? I would certainly appeal their decision if it hasn't been used in years but I don't envy you wading through Santander's customer disservice dept.0 -
Santander are such a pain. My bf's dad is trying to transfer a £5k bond from Santander to Nationwide. Santander said it was sent in February and are blaming Nationwide, Nationwide are saying ermm no.
I've also just attempted to recover a lost Abbey account (lost passbook etc), they gave me the details of the account and said it was active and then the next minute told me it's closed.
Stupid blinking bankCredit Card Debt : £1910 [STRIKE]£5,000[/STRIKE]
Overdraft: £1500 [STRIKE]£2800[/STRIKE]
DFD: October 20110 -
I had the timesaver account which allowed direct debits, abbey later renamed santander contacted companies which i have had no dealings with in over 10 years.
At that time I was moving my cashcard account and direct debits to Yorkshire BS cash transactor,B+B/abbey contacted my direct debit companies and tried to transfer them to a (sh)abbey account, fortunately I was able to sort any problems out.
B+B/abbey sent a message to all my d/ds past and those that were active at that time which gave the abbey sort code and new account number,I was able to argue with companies that I (their customer) had not sent that message and would they accept any instruction from any bank claiming to be my new account provider without contacting me ?
I closed the B+B timesaver account and also every other ex B+B account I had, just in case.
As direct debits should be stopped after 13months or on closure of the account,I would say you have a good arguement to get your cash back, and a lesson of why you should never have abbey/santander accounts.good luck
