I use frontline, but I don't put it on regularly, I use it as and when I think she needs it (usually when she starts scratching more than usual), generally a couple of times a year.
Keep away from flea collars - mine had a really nasty skin reaction where her neck ulcerated overnight, although she'd worn one before with no problems.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.

Frontline is not very effective. The best ones are the ones you get from a vet - Stronghold, Advantage etc.

Whatever you do, don't get anything by Bob Martin.

The Frontline IS the one I got from the vet - just checked in case I'd got the name wrong.

  • I hardly ever put flea treatment on - like elsien, only if the dog looks a bit itchy - but when I do, I tend to use frontline, or the other one which is exactly the same stuff but a but cheaper... cant remember the name.. but despite my relaxed apprach to flea treatments, over the last two dogs I have had, I have very rarely had any flea problems, and no ticks... ever..

Do dogs have "program" flea injections like cats?

For my 2 cats program is the only thing that has actually eliminated all fleas.

lets hope someone answers this that knows then as i think this is probably what my nan is on about as they have a cat that has a flea jab twice yearly.
    thankyou for all your answers.

There is no program injection for dogs im afraid.
that injection doesnt kill adult fleas, it just prevents and fleas it picks up from laying any eggs that will hatch. so if it does get any fleas, the will take a few wees to die. but atleast an infestation would be prevented

Looks like they do "flavor tabs" instead of injections:

yep they def do an oral version, but i personally like products that kill the adult fleas before they have a chance to lay eggs- fleas make me cringe.

program wouldnt be advised if the patient has FAD. as the fleas would need to bite in order to absorb the drug
