confused!!! help with Is or JSA or ???

eek have made about 5 phone calls and am still none the wiser so wonder if anyone here can be of some help. i telephoned various helplines today regarding claiming income support etc and was told well maybe u need JSA contribution based instead of IS, then i was asked are u making an IS claim on the basis of disability so i said no its because myhusbands hours have reduced and they said but u are disabled so u could make the claim in your name but then i have to transfer u to ESA?? i told them i need to do more research as i didnt know what this was

background - i am on long term Incapacity benefit and DLA (high mobility, lowcare) and we have 1 child. my husbands hours have been reduced to 15 which actually helps as i need more support with various things (we cannot claim carers due to me only being on low care). he has earnings of £80 and a pension of approx the same per week and we have other income of approx £30 a week

can anyone advise what is best - to claim IS or JSA and should i do the claim in my name or should my husband make it in his name. i thought we came as a package and therefore the claim would be in our joint names but seems not

would really appreciate any advise anyone has. many many thanks

You would not receive means tested benefits like IS and JSA income based as even with the reduced hours your income is too high.

If you have been claiming Working Tax Credits you should advise them of the reduced hours as this payment will stop, however your Child Tax Credits should increase - although they will base the assessment on the previous years income you should be able to contact them when the award notice comes through and give them the new extimated income

I would highly recommend having a go with the Benefits Advisor here. It's a brilliant tool which has helped us alot.

Stay on Incapacity, you will recieve more of an income from this as you would recieve nothing fom JSA as you income is too high, they say a couple should be able to live on 100.95 per week (its due to go up in the new tax year but only by a £1) as your husbands income is more than thi they will pay you nothing

Even if it was lower, I can't think of reason for entitlement to IS.
