What car?????
I need a little advice if possible please, i really don't know where to start looking!
I need to change my car for something bigger and more economical. It needs to have 5-7 proper seats and a bit of boot room, enough for the weekly food shopping and a buggy etc. I currently have an old Mondeo so i think most things will be more economical. The prob is that I have a very low budget, ideally £2000 (or less) but no more than £2500. I need to use it to run up the motorway everyday - about 140mile round trip so needs to be reliable. Low tax and insurance are also obviously a plus! Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you!

Im in a similar dilemma. In the process of selling a gas guzzling 7 seater 4x4, looking for something more economical. Same budget as you too!!
You want to look diesel for a start. Some of the TDI and TDCI mondeos offer a very good return, especially on motorway runs, combined = 51mpg. You get similar returns on Galaxys if you need 7 seats. Problem is at this price point they tend to have 100k on the clock at least, and about 10 to 12 years old.
I've been looking at astras and astra estates too, around 2000/02. Again, miles are around 100k, but fuel economy on the 1.7 tdi's is 61mpg combined, about 75mpg on the motorway.
I'm of the opinion that by 100k, if the cars gonna die it would have done, and major component failure eg gearboxs would have been replaced or repaired, so you can buy cheap and get 1000s of miles out of them. Diesels from the big names do just run and run.0 -
Buy the best diesel Mondeo estate your money will buy. I cannot think of any 7 seater with a decent boot (e.g. Renault Grand Espace) boot that will be in your budget, especially not an economical one.
My Mondeo estate (2001) would easily fit the biggest pram thingy (i don't have kids, so not sure of the correct terms) and shopping for a large litter of children.
Make sure you check for a well looked after car.Skip dipper and proud....0 -
Could probably find a few DTI Vauxhall Zafiras in your price range - sixth and seventh seats fold flat and give you a good sized boot when they're not in use.0
