Digital Piano

Don't know if this is the right board, but I am looking for Digital Piano for my daughter, and don't know the first thing about what to look for. She is learning the piano and using an old keyboard to practise on but now I think she needs to have a "proper" piano. Someone told me to get a digital one as they are cheaper than a traditional piano and take up less space, but does anyone know what I should be looking for and how much I should expect to be paying? Thanks!
