VW Bora

Hi all
We're looking to replace my Clio with a VW Bora SE TDI approx 2-3 years old. Has anyone had one of these? I've done some reading around about them and they seem a bit too good to be true - Every rave I've read is raving about them and they are reasonably priced, with no apparent problems.
Is this your experience of them?
Thanks

The Bora doesn't have the image of the Golf, hence the lower prices. The MAF sensor can sometimes fail, hesitation under acceleration, cost about £80-100 for a new sensor, fitting is easy. Generally good cars, servicing isn't too expensive, many speacialists out there.0

The BORA is a superb car, but you are still paying a premium for it being a VW.
Wny not look at the SEAT Toledo which has the same chassis, engine & running gear as the VW but comes in a couplf of grand cheaper?
I had the Toledo and also drove a Bora, the driving experience in both was exactly the same. The Bora trim was marginally better but not worth the extra cash!Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -
Toledo is a great buy. VW mecahnicals, chassis, engine and most of the interior switchgear (indicators stalks, window switches etc) are straight from the VW parts bin as well - identical to the ones I had in the Passat I had previously.
I got my Toledo (1.8 20v SE) 9 months old with 12k on the clock for £7690. Try finding a Bora for that price. Handles really well, quite poky as well, and plenty of toys (climate, cruise, electric folding mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear sunblind, alloys, etc etc etc). Only complaint is the seat (as in what you put your bum on, not the make of the car!) is a bit uncomfortable on longer journeys, so sit in one first. It might just be the shape and size of my backside...
Worth having a look at anyway.0 -
Whats a MAF sensor??
I drive long distances every week for work so comfort is critical. But will have a look.0 -
The MAF is the airflow sensor, and can be very expensive to replace, but is a problem across the VW Group. They will be replaced under warranty, or if the car is out of warranty, then on an 'old for new' deal so they are a fair bit cheaper. I had 2 Leons and an Ibiza and I never had a MAF fail, so altough the problem is widespread its not as common as people make out.
I would recommend SEAT over VW anyday because you are paying for the VW badge. Dont overlook teh Skoda Octavia either, all the same car underneath, but even cheaper than the SEAT if you can put up with the one eyed green monster staring at you everywhere you drive!0 -
I think Bora's are a very nice car to drive, i have one myself and after driving 2 different Vectra's (as defo NO NO) VW Bora is brilliant. I have been driving it for 2 years now and i havent had anything major go wrong with it and passes MOT first time too. Mine is a 02 reg and i've done 100,000 on the clock too.0

I found the Octavia to be a bit more expensive than the Toledo when I was looking last. Certainly also worth a look.0
