Weird situation with seller

Errrm, I'm a bit lost..
On the 11th March I bought a scarf, a week later I messaged asking if it'd been dispatched and got a very blunt reply of "away, will be posted next Tuesday) - the 23rd. Annoying but I wasn't desperate.
Yesterday I got a message from him saying item had been posted with a £3 postal cheque - obviously confused why a cheque, I'm buying from him... turned up today with a £6 postal cheque.
The item I won for 20p and postage was 85p - postage cost on the parcel was £1.28, so definitely wasn't refunding excess postage..
I think I need to message asking what the cheque is for, my only thought is he's trying to buy his way out of a poor feedback rating?
Any... thoughts, advice, experiences anybody cares to share? I'm feeling a little weird as to what's going on!
Thanks

Definitley drop him a message, see how he explains this. Until then you can only speculate as to his intensions, maybe it's an added apology for his late dispatch?0

Has he got anymore listings?!

Nope nothing else for sale! Sorry, will let you know if he puts more up

Going to message, just not sure how to word it, don't want it to sound accusing of anything :S0 -
Say thanks and leave a positive

Is the cheque made out to you?
I'd just get straight to the point - 'received the scarf today - thanks, found a cheque enclosed with it - whats this for?'0 -
Maybe he has got you confused with someone he was buying off and sent you the cheque by mistake?
I personally wouldnt cash the cheque until i knew it was definately meant for me.
Just send him a message asking him why he has sent you a cheque.
Just a thought as well, i know its not for a lot of money but what if you tried to cash it and he had nothing in his bank, would you get charged at all, or just him for it bouncing?

I've messaged him asking what it's for.
It's a postal order, Dad says they're paid up front so the money will have already gon from his, so don't think there's the bouncing issue..
Won't cash until I get an answer though!0 -
Your dads right, You pay for a postal order when you get it.0

Ok got a reply it's a refund and extra for having to wait so long! So effectively I've been paid £4.95 for the scarf... not complaining!0
