How do you wash/clean fleecy dog bedding

We bath our dog regularly but now need to clean his bedding. Rather stupidly we have a lot of fleecy blankets and beds, which I now realise are a pain in the wotsit to hoover (hairs just wont come out) and which will clog up the machine, how do you clean yours??

Hang it onl the line on a blowy day, then wash it once the hairs have gone.

I always hoover pet blankets/fleeces, then wash them. Seems to work well for cat hair, don't know about dog.
On a tangent though....this is a favourite gripe of mine....how the present generation of washing machines has a silly 'self-cleaning 'filter which basically leaves lots of animal hair circulating in the wash so the blankets still look hairy. My beloved old Zanussi had a basic pull out filter and I rinsed it every week removing huge amounts of fluff.
    Sorry, rant over!

I have the same problem and have even tried using one of those sticky clothes rollers on my dogs fleece blankets, but even then all the hairs dont come out.
To be honest, I've pretty much given up with fleecy things for my dog because of this and now try to stick to cotton instead as the hairs will come off a blanket easily when you shake it. It's so annoying when the blanket has been washed but still looks dirty because of the hairs!

I have a black lab x and I sometimes despair of hair! I have a dyson which also has a turbo thing for the stairs but it still leaves loads behind. The trouble is, I think, that the hair has a little root that acts like a hook and makes it so hard to shift.

When I wash bedding and it comes out still covered in hair, at least it's clean hair and my boy aint as fussy as me!
  • I put it in the washer - the hair has never blocked the washer but it does cling to the inside of the machine, even after giving it a wipe round - so what I tend to do then is... put all the OH's clothes in the next wash, rather than mine!:rotfl:

That seems to shift most of it from the machine!
  • Remember the Bounce adverts talking about static cling? Bunging the blankets in the tumble dryer for a few minutes gets tons of fluff onto the filter as the static charge builds up and the hairs come off the blankets.

its not that easy to hoover a blanket, it keeps moving around. i dont like the thought of the hairy things going in the machine to be honest as it always used to get clogged with cat hairs until i discovered that you have to hoover the bedding before washing,b ut that was easier because they're all cotton, or smooth materials, im never getting fleece again

it is very hard to hoover the pet bed!! i have put my foot on the blanket on one end & then used the hoover hose ot attatchment to hoover the blanket/fleece, we are having problems with our pups bed at the moment with the hairs not coming off after being washed! will try the line thing first then wash, good luck!

  • I just tend to put mine in the washing machine and fish the hairs out the door seal afterwards! Tumble drying will get rid of the hairs first, but I don't bother as the second Charlie lays down (black lab) it's hairy again!

i stick the dog beds in a old pillowcase and tie a hair band round the top to try and keep the machine clean. Hoovering seems to be the only way i've found to get the hairs off, but i've given up on fleece blankets as they seem to be a hair magnet and a nightmare to get looking vaguely decent.
