driving partners car...........

hi all,

I have just moved into my flat with my partner and we was looking to save some extra cash and I was thinking about giving up my car, as I live under 1mile away from work and do not really have to commute anywhere far at the weekends. My main question is can i drive my partners car with her in the passenger seat, she is 24 and fully comp?? sorry if this question is a bit stupid as i am only a new driver myself!!

thanks everyone :money:

You need to be insured! Get her to add you as a named driver.

You would need to be a named driver on her policy - that may cost but probably not as much as running your car and insuring it seperately, especially if you can make it clear that you will only be driving occasionally. Contact the insurer and ask how much it would cost to add you.

If you drive without insurance its a mandatory 6 points on your licence. If you have been driving for less than two years that means you will have to take a retest. Additionally, your partner will be committing an offence in that she allowed you to drive her car without insurance, so you would both get a nick!
