Windows Live Messenger - Sound Problem

When I'm on Messenger, my sound feed to the person I'm with cuts out every 6 minutes. I still hear and see him - he sees me but can't hear me.
We reconnect and get perfect communication for the next 6 mins, then my sound output cuts again!
I'm on AOL / Windows XP.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks:)

Internet Connection is wired directly through a router. It is not shared with any other.
Does this help you?

If you are using a pc, some have 2 ports for the microphone - one on the front and one on the back. Switch to the other port if there is one. If you are on a laptop with built in mic, try plugging in a mic to see if that works.
Try downloading Skype (and get your friend to do so too) to see if that causes the same problem. Personally, I find Skype much better quality anyway.
These tests will check to make sure that it's not something as simple as a dodgy wire and that it's not a problem with the MSN set-up.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0
