yes i know it doesnt happen like that. dont you think its a fair point though. if they can take away holidays for having time off then why cant you gain extra holidays for working extra time. a person who takes 2 weeks off could work that amount of time and more in overtime.0 -

because you get paid for overtime
(although in some places you don't and you get time off later instead, which amounts to more holiday really)I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

the normal hours that people earn holidays from are paid for as well. just to be clear i am not saying people should get extra holidays for overtime. i am saying if an employer wants to be so petty as to take away holidays just because someone has had 2 weeks off then why shouldnt that employee be able to earn them back from overtime. most employers wouldnt be so petty anyway.0 -

Why work ends is irrelivant IMO, its a shame but thats the way it isAlways ask ACAS0 -
I am possibly starting a new full time job on the 1st June. I am not sure how the companys holidays are accrued yet but I have 2 weeks holidays booked for the last week in July 1st week in August. The new prospective employer has asked me if I will be ok to fund the time off myself. Is this normal or would I be entitled to paid holidays?
Thanks
You are legally entitled to the full holiday entitlement as soon as you start work for an employer.0 -

The whole of a worker's statutory leave entitlement exists from the beginning of each leave year. However, in their first year of their employment, you may restrict your workers to accruing leave monthly at the rate of one twelfth of the annual entitlement0 -

well thats fair enough isnt it. its like what i said were if you can prove you have already booked the holiday they should let you take them but otherwise you should wait 3 months. this should only apply to holidays that you book in when you want. if the company closes down at xmas for a week or 2, they should still pay you for those holidays. even if you have only recently started.0
