How Long Before I refund?

Hi

I am still fairly new to selling on e-bayer and need some advice please.

I posted an item on the 16th March, second class recorded (large letter) and had an e-mail last night from the buyer to say that it hadn't arrived and when was it posted?

I replied saying sorry about that, I posted it the day after payment and directed them to the tracking number so they could see that I had. I said I would look into it and get back to her today.

Online tracking says it is progressing through the system, blah blah blah!

So now what do I do? How long do I give it before I refund? It's a £30 item.

Thanks for your help.

If you've definitely decided that you're going to refund, then do it sooner rather than later. It looks better to the buyer. Have you suggested they ring the local sorting office? Often an item cannot be delivered, but the postie might not put a card through to let the recipient know. If you're holding off refunding incase it turns up, the gauge how long the buyer is prepared to wait. Suss it from there really, some people are easy going, some want it yesterday. Have a look at what feedback they leave for others, it's usually a good indicator.
  • Make sure you don't fall out with the buyer. Emphasize with them, keep them updated. There is nothing worse for a buyer when a seller doesn't care.
Hopefully the item will arrive soon.
If it was me I would offer to refund them the postage straight away to say sorry for the delay.
As Alfiesmum says ask them politely to contact their local sorting office as that may be the problem.
Also check you have definately inputted the right tracking number into the online tracking.
Also double check the buyers address with them, you might have the wrong address for them or you might have written it wrong on the packet.

    Thanks.

I have e-mailed her to check the address details are correct.

Really don't want to refund yet as it is still quite early. What happens if I do and then it arrives? I'm out of pocket by £30 and she has a freebie I suppose? Not her fault though. I did free postage too so can't refund her that.

She has quite low feedback but all good and good feedback left for others too.

Will ask to her check with her sorting office too.

If she was an honest person (like me), if you refunded then she received the item she will pay for the item. However I suppose not everyone is as honest as me!
You have just got to hope she is a honest person.

If not yes you will be out of pocket, unless you try opening a payment not received dispute, however not sure if it will let you if she did pay for the item originally.

If the item doesn't turn up at all at least you will then be able to claim from RM.
