Hi would like to share an experience i had with Smile Internet Banking, i did a money transfer from my current account to my savings account or so i thought.
What i actually did was put in my savings account number and by mistake put in my ISA's sort code! The money 1.5 grand had dissappered!
It turns out i had transfered it to someone else's ISA's account!
Smile told me my savings account number is not unique to me!
Someone else has this number but in an ISA account the only difference being the sort code.
Is this normal? do all banks do this? im shocked and dissapointed i share the same account number with someone else all be it one a savings account one a ISA account with different sort codes.
Smile to their credit had the money back in my account within minutes.

The account number only identifies you at one sort-code so yes, it is perfectly normal for someone else on a different sort code, to have the same account number as you. When doing internet or electronic transfers, you need to make sure you have got both the sort code and account number correct.
