Help with curtain pole?

In our new house we have a window that is 180 inches wide. We are struggling with curtain rails. We tried a pole (well two poles) but could only do it so that we had curtains hanging in the middle of the windows when pushed back iyswim, or by connecting the two together but due to the length of the pole, it just kept collapsing at the joins.
We have then got a track like thing rather then a pole but its really hard to pull the curtains along and it keeps seperating again as we had to join two together.

Has anyone got a soloution to this problem, There must be a way round this. The previous occupants helpfully took the curtain rails with them.

Thanks

  • Drill each end insert some wood glue, push in a wooden dowel two if possible dependant on dowel and pole size then push together
  • Hi,

how did you join them, you could try this, make a wee pilot hole in pole and then screw together with a double ended screw,

If you don't mind track, then swish tracks come in longer lengths - I used to work ina curtain shhop and we got them delivered in 10m rolls which we then cut to size for customers, so no joins. Alternatively you could look at asking a blacksmith to make a pole for you, which normally isn't too expensive. You would probably still need a join in the centre but the would be covered by the centre bracket.

    e.g. swish deluxe 5m track http://www.polesdirect.com/details.asp?ID=932

We have tried drilling and gluing them but the join was not quite right and the curtains kept snagging on the pole as we were trying to pull them. Evetually the join just gave way, I think it just wasn't strong enough, maybe we didn't do it very well, but it was glued with a screw in the middle , Will look at the swish tracks (don't know what they are) and the blacksmith idea thanks all
  • Bradley and John Lewis do passing brackets and C-rings, so a metal pole can be as long as you like. When I worked at JL their metal poles were made by Bradley, so worth a look - although expensive!
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%
