Hi,
Can anyone explain the differences between these types of wood? Other than differing colours what else is there? I'm looking to buy a box on eBay and I'm not sure which one to pick.
American white oak
Utile mahogany
American pale walnut with European beech lid
American black walnut
Red oak
Thanks

All Hard woods , I have always liked the black Walnut .
But really , ..... choose a colour!0 -
If you look at the molecular structure, do resistance and compression tests, then there probably is a diffference. But ultimately, the main difference to the uninitiated is the colour.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Guessing it will be down to the favoured colour then

Unless the box is for outside, then just chose the colour and grain you prefer.0

Thanks guys. I'm thinking American black walnut. Something a little different to the Ikea light brown coloured furniture I already have in my bedroom.0

What do you want it for?
If it's just something internal and decorative then pick whatever you want.
If it's something structural like to replace a ceiling beam then you need to give it some more thought!
Likelwise if it's something exposed and external, some woods are more resistant to weathering than others.0
