Malwarebytes not downloading

My friend's desktop is running slow, she says it sometimes takes several minutes to load Firefox, and once it has loaded, opening other websites is also slow. She's not technical minded, and asked me to have a look. I wasn't able to download Malwarebytes, never mind run it. It asked if I wanted to save it, and once I said yes it went off somewhere, and neither asked me where to save it, nor gave me error messages. I'm going over again on Monday next, and I don't want to waste my time trying to download again. Can I download Malwarebytes to a usb stick, and load from that?
She has Vista, and Norton, she's very wary of changing anything. I'll have to work to get her to let me tidy up her pc if malwarebytes doesn't show anything.
