Hello all,

I am currently on the Eon Fix Online 5 tariff.

I spoke with Eon today, to be told a Fix Online 7 tariff is due for release on Thursday 25/02/2010.

The quote and Fix facility is not available online.

The operator stated it is earlier than expected, so lets hope for some big savings!

Start of a price war?

Thanks,

Chris

Well I'm already on fixonline 6, and it would be more expensive if I moved to 7. Strange, cos like you, I thought prices might be coming down for a while.

How did you work that one out?

I am on v6, and uswitch says for average consumption (3,600 and 22,500 kWh) v7 is £19 cheaper for my postcode.

The key is in the gas base rate, which has come down in line with the 7% reduction for standard tariff. The lower online discount in v7 means the electricity is 1.3% more expensive, but the gas is 4.1% cheaper.

I switched to v6 in February, so if I switch so soon I MIGHT get hit with the £30 penalty, which makes the £19 saving pointless. I'm going to wait and see what v8 does.

The v7 payable Tier 2 after discounts, inc VAT, for my post code, is:

    Electricity 7.9254p
    Gas 2.3372p

I want to fix this for FIVE years, not one.

Please EON, you can slap on a big fat exit penalty, but fix me for five years at this price.

My gas base rate is not 7% cheaper. Maybe its my region? Both tariffs identical apart from:-
    gas tier 2 fixonline6 - 3.4072p
    gas tier 2 fixonline7 - 3.1584p

Online discount is also reduced 1.4% for me. The 2 seem to compensate really

    (3.4072 - 3.1584) / 3.4072 = 0.07302 = 7.302%

Thanks, I see how you get 7% now. But the 1.4% reduction in online discount is on the total bill ie including all electricity and gas tier 1. In my case the overall effect is that they do nearly compensate. But I'm a low user - maybe there would be a small saving if I was a high user

Did you notice the fact that the v6 total discount (6+2+19.3=27.3%) applies to the Tier 1 rates? So we are getting 27.3% discount on the standing charge in v6. By lowering the online discount, we are paying more for Tier 1. Damn clever: the 7% gas base rate reduction is accompanied by clawback on three fronts: Tier 1 gas and electricity, and Tier 2 electricity. Even the 7% reduction itself is cut back to 5.6%.

Surely the genius behind this manoeuvre, which has been unfolding since last year, should be running the Treasury. With financial sleight of hand like this, we would all be paying 50% tax without realising it.:T
