I deleted some stuff and have since changed my mind but somehow the recycle bin has been emptied - unsure how as it was only 2/3 days ago and have done nothing to empty it (not relevant but on my mind).
Is there a way to restore it or are there any utilities/freeware to recover stuff?
Thanks in advance.

No.
It's been written over the past few days.
Data recovery can work, however it's long, it costs money and there is no guarantee that you get back what you emptied in the same state as you put it in the bin.

The trouble with downloading data recovery software is that if you save it on the drive from which you aim to recover your data, the recovery software itself may overwrite more of the data you're trying to recover. Depending on the amount of data and computer usage since its loss, there may be some still there, so if it's important, you could try downloading recovery software to a different drive if possible.
If neither you nor anyone else using your computer has emptied your recycle bin manually, your 'puter may be set up to do it automatically. If so, you might want to change those settings. I'm not sure exactly how to do so, but I'm sure someone here will be able to tell you.0 -

The way deleting a file works is that it doesnt delete the file, it marks the area on the disk the file was stored in as available and the next opertunity that somthing need saving it just finds an available section of the disk, it doesnt use all the free space then start filling in the gaps.
Ive used easy recovery pro with quite a bit of sucess but the reason is that as soon as people loose a file/files they switch their machine off I go round with my laptop and usb to IDE adaptor and conect the drive to my laptop as a secondary drive where no data is writen to it and I have recoverd lots of stuff. Installing data recovery software on a drive needing recovery will wriite files to the drive and reduce the chances of getting the data back. so if your doing data recovery install the software on a nother pc and conect the drive to that.0
