Santander... !!!!!!?

So as I mentioned a few days ago I've been trying to track down an old bank account. I snuck past Santander's tricky phone messaging system and managed to get through to someone who not only confirmed my details and gave me an old stylee account code but also informed me (after I explained my mum aka who it's in trust with is deceased) has an account linked to mine which is dormant but with money in it (I was under the impression that this had been closed).

They said that they couldn't access the balances at that time but if I go down my branch with ID, death certificate etc etc etc I should be able to access/close them.

Just phoned back as they said that they were having technical problems and couldn't access details at that time and this time I phoned they said they had no record of this account or the other account (which I do have a passbook for) and that it had obviously been closed.

I last accessed my account about 2 years ago? When I attempted to withdraw from it but was told i needed my mum's signature (she was abroad at the time) and my mum's passbook was last updated about 5 years ago.

Are they having me on?

it must be frustrating, 99% of santender employees dont have a clue !

try calling again or if you have the account no then go into a branch to try your luck. all the best !

I tried phoning again and they again said... no record of it ever existing blah blah blah. They didn't seem to know what they were doing and even said my account should't have letters in it.

Going to Santander tomorrow in town and I'm taking:

My passport & my driving license,
    The code of the account,
Proof of my previous address (that the account is registered to),
    Proof of my current address,
    My mother's death certificate,
A letter signed by my dad in reference to the linked account requesting that the address to be changed to our current address,
Proof of my dad at this address,
    Their passbook.

They can't complain with all that can they?

It was absolutley USELESS they wouldn't let me do ANYTHING whatsoever, wouldn't let me change my address, check my balance etc nowt.

Apparently because my mum died and my dad is her executor he has to come down and make the changes. So I've set up a meeting with them on the 10th April. Taking my dad out to lunch to make him come and sort it all out.

All this effort for about £30 lol

But as I said to my dad it's the principle of the matter!

If the account was set up in a way that didn't actually have you as owner of the funds, then there will be absolutely nothing that you can do.

So it wasn't useless. They have identified with you how to progress things.

    Time well spent, surely?

True, the account is in my name but I need my mum's signature to do anything and as she is obviously no longer around the trustee passes to my dad.

    Pain in the bum :)
