Credit Card for PhD student?

Hello
My partner is currently a university student. So no income apart from student loan and money from his parents. Come October he'll (hopefully) be starting a PhD which comes with a tax free stipend of £13k pa (so just over £1k per month he'll get).
Now, getting to my question, he's had a standard CC with Halifax for about 18 months now. Limit started at £500 and we've just had a letter saying it's been increased to £1800.
I would let to get my bf a reward/cashback credit card of some kind and I was wondering if we can put the money he gets as an income? I know it won't be valid for things like mortgages, but I was wondering if we could use it to get him a decent CC?
Thanks

If he puts it down as an income, it'll count as an income.
But it's not a great income, so would be surprised if it'd get him any good CC deals.0 -

I can't see that any of these advertise a minimum income (remember the 13k is tax free so he's really on about 17k if it was a job job) that I can see immediately on their websites
Tesco
Halifax iPoints (this one might be good for him to go for as he has a good existing standard cc with them?)
Marks and Spencer

Anyone know any more without strict minimum income criteria? I got a Goldfish when I was just below the threshold but with my bf being quite a bit below I don't know if it's worth trying.
Anyone know if the above cards do have official minimums?
ThanksKavanne

I got a tesco credit card when I was a PhD student (stated my stipend and student status on my application). They only gave me a £250 credit limit, but I was more than happy with that so it depends on how much credit he needs.Mortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000

£250 would be enough to start with, we've learned with Hfax that it's most important to get his foot in the door and then request increases every now and thenKavanne
