Any Suggestions of How to Raise Money for Charity!! merged thread

Options
I'm looking for suggestions of how to raise money for the Cardiomyopathy Association, Heartlink Childrens Charity and the Children's Heart Federation but I'm struggling.

My daughter who is now 2 was born with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart) and the above charities have been a great help. We always need charities like this and I feel I really need to do something to help them carry on doing their good work.

Hope you've got your thinking caps on because obviously mine isn't working.

Thank you everyone!!!!

  • Hi mollymogs

I hope everything goes well for you and your daughter.

I raise money for my local charity in a number of ways. There are all the usual things like sponsored events, coffee mornings, table sales etc.

The alternative things I am working on are....

Everyclick - use them as your search engine and get friends to do it as well.
EBAY and Mission Fish - Sell things on behalf of the charities, ask people to offer things for sale etc.

Just a couple of quick ideas.

    All the best

The first two suggestions are ones which the charities the OP mentions might already have in place, so worth checking that first, and then making friends and families aware of the 'easy' ways of raising money to support a cause which must be dear to all your hearts would be very useful, I'd have thought.

Plus it is always asking the charities you want to support whether they have fundraising packs, support for fundraisers, or special activities or weeks - for example the National Eczema Society has a national Eczema Week each autumn when there is a lot of local and national publicity for any events. Plus they sell cards - particularly Christmas cards! - on a grand scale!

DFC's link is super for ideas for YOU doing things. However, if you want to publicise an event using the name of a charity, you should let the charity know what you are doing so that they can 'approve' it. It's rarely a problem, but it does mean that they can disassociate themselves from anything that they feel might bring them into disrepute. Alcoholics Anonymous, for example, probably don't want anyone to hold a Sponsored Pub Crawl in their name ...

Plus there may be advantages - you may be able to get posters with the charity's logo on etc, they may be able to publicise it to any local supporters, they may know another keen fundraiser in your area that you could work with!

Of course there's nothing to stop you organising an event 'in aid of heart charities' and splitting the proceeds afterwards. But once you get into the swing of things, and find yourself writing to the local paper and being interviewed on local radio and generally making a big splash, it's best if the charities you're supporting know you're doing it!

Hope that helps, and all the best! :j I love people who raise money for charity ...

    Hi,

I will be taking part in a Rally next year for charity. We will be driving from London to Mongolia in a 1ltr mini.

Does anyone have any fundraising ideas?

    Any advise would be great.

    Thanks.

Could you organise an auction & raffle night ?

We belong to a linedancing club and every year we arrange one of these for a local Breast Cancer charity. Most of our members will buy items to be auctioned or for the raffle and we try to get donations off local Companies etc. Our first night in 2004 raised £1300 and last year we got over £2000.

    Ok, heres a few ideas:
    1. Ask local businesses to sponsor you. Make it a competition between them by saying that the business that donates the highest amount with get their logo printed on the side of the mini that you are using.
    2. Have a raffle - ask local businesses to donate prizes and advertise in the local papers. You will need to register with your council to do this though.
    3. Have a 'weird' ebay auction..... I sold Weston-super-Mare mud to raise money for my daughters medical treatment. I got on TV, in the papers etc and people bid on the auction or just donated.
    HTH for now. good luck.
