Loft Flooring and 270mm Insulation

    A better solution is as I did. Put 4 x 2 on top screwed with 6" screws. When you put the flooring down, screw to every joist, just a couple of screws in each board will make it very stable.
    Increasing the joists to 8" will mean a lot less compression of the insulation.


    Do you have any photographs of your loft ?(I know it's an odd question!)

    No I don't but you wouldn't see anything but floorboards anyway. If you want to know about how I did it in more detail just ask or send a PM.
  • Are you going to build your dad a scalextric when your done too? When I did my loft I just did the bit I was covering in boarding up to the joist and then put old carpet on top of that the boards. The carpet must give a degree of insulation plus the junk your going to bung up there on top. Personally I may go for a train set when I get a bit of time.
    Nothing to see here, move along.

    If you compress 270mm insulation down to 100mm its only as effective as 100mm i.e. very little improvement over whats already there
