Increasing the joists to 8" will mean a lot less compression of the insulation.

No I don't but you wouldn't see anything but floorboards anyway. If you want to know about how I did it in more detail just ask or send a PM.0 -
Are you going to build your dad a scalextric when your done too? When I did my loft I just did the bit I was covering in boarding up to the joist and then put old carpet on top of that the boards. The carpet must give a degree of insulation plus the junk your going to bung up there on top. Personally I may go for a train set when I get a bit of time.Nothing to see here, move along.0

If you compress 270mm insulation down to 100mm its only as effective as 100mm i.e. very little improvement over whats already there0
