The user interface is awful. Can you set it to classic view?
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

Its ultra carp - the 2010 version will revert back to the menu solution.
The only solution is to get something called classic start menu for office 2007 (costs money). http://www.addintools.com/english/menuoffice/
This is how smart Microsoft are - they done the same nonsense with the classic start menu in windows 7.0 -
The Ribbon UI is okay, bit of a learning curve but no different to first having to use office 95. Although my old line manager hated it with a passion as it made Access much harder for him to use.
The ribbon in win7 has expanded to both Paint and WordPad, as well as several 3rd party programs. You know there is like a 80 page set of guidelines if you want to use the official ribbon in your own software, and then more guidelines about icons to be used like colours, 3d angle, shadowing etc. You really do need a professional icon artist to make them :O
I am a bit Hit and miss over the win7 taskbar, at times it is useful. But i hate not been able to quick switch been 2 excel documents due to the change.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Sorry DarkConvict, I think the ribbon is S***
I tried Office 2010 Preview - its got ribbons and menu (wonder if mickysoft will stick to that logic).0 -
Glad I'm not on my own. I just can't even bring myself to use it. It looks like a primary school teaching aid. :rotfl:Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

Office 2007 is very good after a period of time, stick with it for a few weeks
Win7 and excel - what's the problem, ctrl-tab works perfectly in excel2007 for me0 -
Don't know if this will help you, but it's proved useful for me when I've been totally lost before.
It's an interactive guide in which you click on the buttons as if you were in Word 2003 and it tells you where it is in Word 2007.

(I don't like it too much either and excel is worse- found macro stuff in 'view' section yesterday!)0 -

If you know the old keyboard shortcuts (eg F10 > I > S for the symbol/character palette) you can still use those.0

I have to admit, I was VERY sceptical about office 2007
From a technical support perspective it's confusing, but I'm doing classes at a college now and once you get your head around things it's REALLY easy to use. Since the most common features are always accessible
I agree with others, stick with it and you'll find how great it really is. Consider doing an ITQ course at a local college. I'm doing level 1 at the moment even though I'm capable of level 3 already and working from the beginning is great. I have no problems using it and understand the functions a lot more.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

OP, you are confusing familiarity with usability. You are used to the old system so that seems easier to you. If you actually give the new interface some time you will realize that it is much more powerful and user-friendly than the old system. I hated it too when I first got Office 2007, because I was so ingrained with the same interface that I had been used to since the days of Word 6.0. But within a day or two I was completely au fait with the ribbon and was able to do all my usual tasks much quicker than with the old menu system. Plus the more powerful features that were always hidden away in some arcane sub-menu before are now much more readily available to hand.
Just give it a chance, it'll be fine.poppy100
