I joiend Primus earlier this month due to be with them tomorrow
I selected option for free evening/weekend calls with no fee and still keep landline with BT, I did say this on phone to them that I wanted only CPS
I just checked there web site and its been updated but no option other than landline with them now
I am hoping I still keep BT for landline

EDIT just rung them and I am still with BT for landline.

I'm on an expensive Virgin triple package and interested in Primus and Plusnet.
I realise I'd have to pay a reconnection charge for Primus, to get back to a 'BT' line from cable, but I'm confused about Plusnet being on the LLU network.
Aren't cable, BT and LLU incompatible? Is it possible to use Primus (BT) for phone and Plusnet (LLU) for broadband?0 -
I use BT for landline only
Talk talk (soon to be Primus) for phone
and aquiss for broadband adsl+ using Cable & wireless LLU
So it should be possible. I have had no issues with using talk talk with Carrier Pre Select and another broadband provider for many years now its only recent I change to adsl+ LLUservice
Not sure what cable would be like dont have that in my area although it runs under ground where town I live into the sea to Holland0 -
IMHO, that's the way to do it (i.e. only using Primus as your CPS calls provider).I joiend Primus earlier this month due to be with them tomorrow

If you haven't already, have a click on the HERE link in my signature below. That has some suggestions as to how to use BT/Primus/18185.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
If I understand correctly, you call it a 'BT landline' because BT own it and it defines the type of technology (as opposed to cable or 'LLU'), but from a customer point of view you rent the line from Primus?
My confusion over LLU technology is because, as I understand it, LLU (local loop) providers can use their own equipment rather than BTs. I now realise that this can be just for broadband (which sounds like what you have) or for phone too. If you had an LLU phone line provider then you would no longer have a 'BT' line, and would have to pay a reconnection fee when you switched. I think!0 -
I stick with BT for line rental because it easier to switch provider using CPS.
I no expert on phones, but think Heinz is, he gives good advice if he thinks I am doing it best way then obviously I take his word for it
To me more important than phone is broadband so I tend to pay more than most but thats for speed, customer service and reliability more than anything
I get around 15-16Mbps via adsl+ but I am only 15 minutes walk away from exchange
I also use 18866 for cheap calls though using that prefix then STD and phone number, calls are 0p plus 5p connection charge0 -

I seemed to recall its easy switching if you keep line rental with BT.0

I'm not sure I see what you're getting at there but you certainly have to pay line rental to BT in order to have a CPS calls provider.blahblahdoh wrote: »Easier how?
It seems like you are saying broadband suppliers are neutral about using either BT or Primus lines, but CPS suppliers favour BT?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Apologies for confusion. What I'm getting at (mainly) is that Primus line rental is quite a bit cheaper than BT line rental, so why choose BT? What are the advantages and disadvantages of such a choice. I think you are saying it gives access to cheaper calls? In which case this has to be weighed against the higher line rental costs? Also the Primus deal includes some free calls along with the line, so for some people that might be all they need.
I'm also trying to understand the implications of choosing Primus (for line rental), in terms of difficulty of switching suppliers of phone and/or broadband.0 -
I believe if you have landline with another company like talk talk you cant use another company with CPS like Primus but you can with BT, so thats what I meant by easy to switch
I also think some broadband provide only supply people with BT line, well thats what they often say0
