Warning About Freebies Which Cost Money

  • i put in different details for different websites

eg. for free sim cards and other stuff that is completly free i put in my real details but anything that im not sure about or you have to sign up for one of their patner companies, i put in fake details.

if you get charged for anything that says its free (check the terms and conditions) then they are breaking the law so you should report them

I read your post and that makes me feel sort of sad. I think it's nice that teens are using this site. It's a family site with no rubbish on it. Plus, it will help you when you become an adult with your finances and saving money. I think it's also nice that you are doing something positive and productive with your time. There's so many teens out there nowadays that are wasting their lives away doing things that aren't good for them. However, I would never advise a teenager to go against what their mum and dad says. Perhaps you can talk to them about the site and encourage them to use it too? They might enjoy the site just as much as you do. :D

    Thanks!!

They do benefit from my free coupons but it is the SIM Cards, they keep saying i don't need anymore! Not in an angry way but in a way that suggests they are fed up with the lot! I'll remind them when i've sold them for a proffit!

I don't apply for too many freebies. When I do, I always read the terms of the offer, and the privacy policy concerning what they do with the info I'm giving them. Any UK website must by law have a privacy policy telling you what they will do with your personal info you've given them (Data Protection Act), and an opt out from future marketing.

If an offer doesn't have a privacy policy, I don't apply. If there is no opt out from marketing, I don't apply. In return for spending a few minutes reading through an offers terms. I don't get any junk mail, any marketing phone calls, and very little email spam. I value my privacy, and peace and quiet at home more than getting a few freebies.

I am also a teen, and I always put in a number that has just the last number changed, so instead of 079*******1 I put in 079*******2

That's a bit naughty. Looking through a pile of free sims I have, the phone numbers go in series (077#####790, 077#####791, 077#####792, etc). By just changing the last number of your mobile. You are very likely giving out someone elses phone number to a lot of marketing companies. This isn't fair to them. A much fairer thing to do would be to keep one free sim number aside unused, and use this number to sign up for freebies. This way you know that you, or someone else isn't going to be flooded with marketing calls.

Ive never been charged for freebies especially simcards. I generally use my number, but as ive swapped numbers now, and my old one always pops up, i just use that. The only network that may charge you cud be easy mobile, they like to charge but the others are always free.

Its not that my parents want me to stop using the site, they complain that the details used in the process are being charged. I just don't know, Im just a teen too, and know nothing about internet and phone bills

  • you cant get charged for reverse charge calls until you accept a reverse charge call, there's no way companies will charge you by just obtaining your number, its not possible.

I agree with Rex Mundi that it isn't fair to make up a phone number. I never give mine out as last year i was charged £1.50 for a stupid text which was sent to me and which made no sense. I complained to 02 who were USELESS. I still don't know how the company who were stealing from people in this way got my number but now I realise that someone else might have given it to them as a 'wrong' number. Either way I think that the way companies can take money from your mobile phone is criminal. It is outright theft. Rant over!
