New glasses not very good-- will I have to pay again?

Hi,
I only got my new glasses six months ago and the other day when I tested to see if I could read a number plate at the required distance and it is not very clear. I think there has been an error in their strength or set up,

I really can not afford to pay anymore moneym surely they should still be grauntued

Any thoughts

depends if they [shop/store] will allow it, peoples eye slight can get weaker at any time. I would read info /t&s on their website etc to find out where you stand. Now if the frame was malfunctioning you may have a leg to stand on as the product developed a fault within a year of purchase /reasonable time.

if you go into any optician they should be able to tell you what prescription the glasses using a clever machine - that way you can see if they sent you a pair that matched what you asked for.
on the other hand, i went through a phase of needing new glasses every 9 months as my eyes deteriorated, so it could be that too..... if the glasses aren't at the right prescription you would probably notice other things, like headaches if you read or use a computer for a while.
and i don't think it's possible for the lenses to change so i'm not sure that a guarentee would cover anything on that front....

.... I only got mine last week and I keep getting headaches and very very dry eyes ... in fact, I'm sat here with my old ones on, my new ones don't even seem to make me see that much better, especially out of the eye that had the biggest change (actually I was told it was a 'significant change')! I'm a wee bit worried about going back - I bought them from Optical Express. What do you think?

Your eyesight changes over time so I'm not sure the opticians will give you a new pair.
ceebeeby: If you only got yours last week, go back to them as soon as possible and get them to change the prescription for you. New glasses should feel comfortable after a few days and they are required to fit them as best as possible.

£15 at glassesdirect.co.uk (and more money off if you go via quidco and use money off links on the discount forum). I think I got a new pair delivered, for about £12

Just make sure ur prescription is right. Obviously these guys dont give you after care like an optician would. Go back to your optician u got them from and u shouldnt have to pay anything more if they made a mistake.
  • Hi, i've never posted here before and only know about this site because of my mum, but I work part time at Specsavers opticians. If you don't pay for your sight test (ie, you get a NHS funded one) if you come back to get your eyes tested before you're due, if your eyes have changed you won't have to pay and will get a nhs voucher towards your glasses, too (though if your prescription hasn't changed you would have to pay for your sight test). This is how it works at Specsavers, and it might be different at other opticians, but you could go to a Specsavers and they would be able to get your old prescription and recall date from your last opticians and put through your sight test like this. If you paid last time but are on a low income you can fill in a HC1 form and possibly get at least some help towards your glasses. The other people at the specsavers where i work don't seem to tell people about this form, even though we actually have them to give out to patients, which may be why you've never heard of it before (if you haven't). I hope this is useful for you (if you haven't aready sorted it out),

I took them back they just needed a slight adjustment which they "kindly" did not charge me for.
