Purchasing a house between Jan 1st 2010 and today

We are first time buyers and completed our deal on Feb 15th. The house cost us 135,000 and we were supposed to complete before Jan 1st but due to a problem didn't. A month and half either way we could have saved ourselves a few quid on stamp duty.....Gutted!

Exactly the same situation here. What a total shambles - for the government to reintroduce stamp duty in January then effectively remove it again in March, it seems completely unfair to those of us caught in the middle. If I'd have known I could have delayed my completion by 1 week and saved myself £1500.

We've had the same. Our purchase was supposed to go through in December but our mortgage broker came down with Swine Flu and no one covered. We moved it back until Feb but have been stung with £1500 as a First Time Buyer. Not right! Will there be any way to claim this back?

Edit- We had to borrow the £1500 so we've now got much more to pay back!

Thousands missed the boat because at some stage in the chain somebody's solicitors were closed from about 23rd December to about 3rd/4th January ... and nobody'd thought to mention it. So a lot that thought they could exchange/complete on (say) 23rd/24th or between Xmas/New Year were told at the last minute "sorry luv"
