any budding tv fixers - tv sound problem

this seemed the most appropiate place to put this thread
i have a Hitachi 28 inch widescreen tv - had it about 6 years.
It has developed anasty squeaking/sqawking/squelching habit with the sound, that is intermittant, doesnt stop when you dum the sound.
sometimes can go for hours without making any funny noises at all..... it happens whether we are wathcing a tv programme, recorded/pre recorded videos or dvd's
Anyone budding tv engineers out there who might have some idea what/why it is doing this...... dont have a lot of dosh at the mo', was waiting for the tv to die, before replacing, but it has gone on for so long now, thought we might try and get it fixed, but wanted to see if there was something simple i could do to check
