Router Location

Options
Would it be wise to put the router into the loft, run extension BT lead up there? Would this improve signal & strength? Would it be ok up there in the heat or would it burn it out?

Thanks.

Heat can cause problems for routers. I know of a few cases where the router has stopped working through overheating.

It may improve signal strength in your roof space, but I assume that you will not be up there on the internet.

Anywhere will be fine. I think that you are thinking of it like a transmitter for TV or radio, for example. These are placed on hills (i.e. high up) to minimise obstructions from buildings and other hills, thereby increasing coverage over a large area.

I have mine next to my PC on the ground floor and I can use my laptop wirelessly upstairs or downstairs no problem.

No point doing it you need to remember that the wireless signal from the router emits in every direction up to a certain distance from the router like a ball. putting barriers in the way reduces the signal strengh so if your pc is downstairs the signal from the loft is going through the loft floor and the 1st ground floor ceiling if you put it int he loft the signal will be great above the house but you aint gonna be sat on the roof are you? the best place is a central location to where you want to use it but the additional work in doing that proberbly isnt worth it so Iwould leave it where it is. just make sure it isn in the open not tucked away under a desk or in a metal box that can reduce the signal.
