Outlook Express

Is there a safe place to download OE from as I thought you could download it for free now?

I wish to continue using it on my new PC.

Thanks

It doesn't seem to be available as a separate download on the Microsoft website. Since it's a MS product then if it were available I would expect it to be there.

Its not supported on more recent operating systems, you'll need this instead:

Mozilla TB is another option but I'm not a fan of its reliability

I've been using Thunderbird for nearly a year and have had no reliability issues. Just don't use betas.

Outlook Express is no longer bundled with Windows, but its successor Windows Live Mail is available to download from the link JasX posted.

  • I have always found Thunderbird to be far superior to Outlook Express/Windows Live Mail.

It's not hugely different in terms of user interface to OE, you should give it a try:

    Thanks for the helpful advice.

So when my new PC arrives with windows 7 and MS works will it have a mail client like OE on it?

If not how do I get my old OE files off of external HD onto new PC? Is it possible?

    Thanks again

No. Like I said, Outlook Express is no longer bundled with Windows, and if you want Microsoft's new version of OE (Windows Live Mail) you have to download it separately. It's free, and you can use it to import the old OE messages you have saved on your external hard drive.

Did they fix the Thunderbird profile corruptions that cause you to lose all messages from time to time? google still seems to point to it not being solved.
  • Pretty sure I read somewhere that they had in Thunderbird 3? Certainly haven't had that happen to me for a long time.
