Want to try and better our present life and crit ill ins. Not really sure if getting benefit of crit illness, just want ins to cover payment of mortgage if either one of us pops off before time ?? which is best to have ?? just life ins or on mortgage or what ??

Be thankful you are not getting benefit of critical illness as this means you are healthy!
Decreasing term asurance is the cheapest form of life cover.
What you need to consider is if suddenly you had a heart attack or stroke would you have enough money coming in to pay all your existing bills and live to the same level as today?
Most of us would say no - so personally I have life cover to pay off the mortgage and through my work get cheaper critical illness cover for me and my wife.
Does your employer offer anything like this or if not perhaps your union?0
