Damp Proofing

Options
My wife and I live in a 2 bedroom terraced flat, built around 1920., ( ground floor.

We have major problems in the Kitchen with a mixture of Damp & Condensation.

However checking through our literature there was a damp proof course placed where all of our damp problems exist placed in 2002.

however I have tried calling the company and they appear to now specialise in wood treatment, however none of the numbers exist and I cannot find the place it is.

The company is called Barier Preservation and is in Whitley Bay Newcastle upon tyne, any ideas if the damp proof course should be covered and if the company dont exist how I go about getting firstly the damp proofing fixed and secondly the issues rectified and the damage paid for, are these types of companys insured?

Help please.

I don't fully understand. You have tried calling the company, but the numbers don't work? Is that correct? Do they have a website?

Does the the literature you have contain a company number? I assume Barrier Preservation is a trading name as it does not show as a current, disolved or previous name on the Companies House website.

The guarantee is only as good as the company, so is worthless if the company no longer exists, unless it was a GPI backed guarantee.

Yeah the number does not accept incoming calls, and the invoice does not have the company number on just the Vat number address and Telephone number.
How can I find out if it is GPI Backed

I would presume you would have additional literature indicating it to be so if it was. I'm assuming this work was done prior to you living at the property?

You will probably find that the company has gone pear shaped and that the guarantee isn't worth the paper it is written on. The guarantee is only as good as the life span of the company.

However, if it is a Sovereign Guarantee, then it is different. Sovereign sell a range of damp proofing products and if the product is installed by one of their approved contractors, then the guarantee is with Sovereign and not the installing company.

Might be worth reading your guarantee.
