Old Seeds

There have been lots of posts with people asking if it's OK to use seeds they purchased last year etc. In my experience (having had lots of really old packets of seeds i.e. upto and over 5 years old) you will still almost always get some germination even if they were ancient and even if you've opened the packet before.
Last year I sowed loads of old seeds most of which had been opened that had been lying around in the garden in a damp tupperware box and I still ended up with lots of plants from them. So if you have some lying around give them a go and you'll probably be rewarded for it.

thanks for this i was worried about planting too much and it getting wasted or wasting seeds that i'd brought.

i guess keeping them dry is the key?

Dry would definitely be better but I'm fairly sure even some of the damp ones that I left outside also germinated. Ideally they should be stored somewhere cool and dry, lots of people keep them in tupperware in the fridge.
