i think as a ftb it has potentially opened me up to more houses, if i saw a house on for or around the previous stamp duty level ie 130k i would have the SD at the back of my mind so wont go above 125k as an offer so now since it has been scrapped for ftb i can now look at houses above 125 up to my budget

I'm getting confused with this FTB criteria

Does that mean someone buying a house who is not a FTB subject to stamp duty the same as before?

    In a word, yes.

but do they mean those who don't currently own property or those who have never owned property by ftb? and what about those who have or do own property overseas?

Lets hope the sellers dont know you're a FTB. You have a bit more money in your pocket now. Would they add the £1250 onto the asking price?

What about those who have sold a property, moved into parents or rental for a short period and then are planning on rebuying in the near future?

    Are they classed as FTB's?

no. because although this has been presented as a help for ftbs it's really a help to the housing market (sellers) who would otherwise struggle to sell their property. so if they did this they'd be negating this small bit of help the government has given to prevent total stagnation and drop i prices.

The point i am trying to make is that prices are still way too high. Labour is no doubt hoping this little con will cloud peoples judgement and make them buy that overpriced house.

Buy a house overpriced by tens of thousands of pounds but save 2 grand in the short term

    Exactly.

Are you in NI by the way doire?
