I am owed money by a company that has been bought

Options
Hi I have a CCJ against a firm (a mechanic - did not carry out service correctly, engine then failed, £2000 to repair). He has sold the business to his son and now claims that he does not have to pay the debt as he no longer owns the firm. The firm name has also changed. Am I able to pursue his son for this debt? Many thanks if anyone can help or point me in the direction of anyone who can help (my experience of 2 debt collection agencies is dire by the way)

AFAIK iIf your debt is against the company then you would be a creditor if the company was wound up, and unlikely to see a lot of your cash.

If he sold the business as a going concern then you would still have a claim on the other hand :)

    It depends.

If it is against a limited company then that company has the debt. If it is against him personally (i.e. he did not trade as a limited company) then he still has to pay.
