    Hi,

Im assuming you are running some version of windows?

    1. Open up a command line (start menu --> run --> type "cmd")
    2. type the command "ipconfig /all"
    3, paste the output here

    Thanks

This is your machines IP address, this means your connected ok

    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.65
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

This is your router and shows your are connected ok and have a default gateway (where to go for the internet connection)
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254
    DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

    So, in short your connected just fine. You can try this simple test;

In the command line window again type
    ping www.google.co.uk

You should see something like this coming back
    Reply from 208.80.152.2: bytes=32 time=80ms TTL=53
    Reply from 208.80.152.2: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=53
    Reply from 208.80.152.2: bytes=32 time=84ms TTL=53
    Reply from 208.80.152.2: bytes=32 time=84ms TTL=53

This shows you you are connected to the web. If you have problems browsing etc, then its likely to be a firewall or some security software stopping you.

    Hope this helps.

They all say that they are connected.

    Is this right.

"Local Area connection 2" is your connection over your local network to your router (presumably via a network cable).

"1394 connection" is a FireWire interface on your PC ( a bit like USB). You could (if you wanted) connect two PCs via a FireWire cable, which is why it shows up in "Network Connections".

And... according to this page on another forum, "Internet Gateway" may be your router identifying itself to your computer via uPNP so that you can control or monitor it in some way.

So, this sounds okay! It's always worth running scans with your antivirus and anti-malware utilities if you're worried, though.
