Help with Haggling
I ordered a new i20, and was supposed to be picking it up this week as they had a cancelled order in stock that suited me - however, when it arrived from their other site they found it was the wrong colour & the wrong engine size
Anyway, verbally agreed today to take a different one they've actually got sitting on their lot right now, however I have a sneaky suspicion it's actually the one I test drove last weekend. There were already miles on the clock when we took it out, plus we did a fair few, so I'm thinking that when I get there & see it there's going to be at least 50 miles on the clock.
As I'm buying from new I reckon this could be a haggling point for me - either to get them to completely fill the tank up or perhaps knock some more off the extra I'm now having to pay for the metallic paint.
I get kinda embarassed haggling, and this is the first time I've ever bought a new car, so any advise & tips gratefully received
Thanks

Is this newer car a higher spec? if it is personally I'd just take it at the price previously agreed.
If its "similar" spec then you perhaps have room for negotiation if its got more than "delivery" miles on it, certainly worth a tank of fuel and maybe some other goodwill gesture for the inconvenience of not getting the car you ordered (mats maybe?)

This car is the same spec as in model, no of doors etc, it's just that the one I was meant to get was in the basic colour, so as the only others they've literally got right now have metallic paint I need to pay extra (I have got them to halve the cost of the paint already)Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Sounds like you have finished haggling and agreed the deal?0

Not quite - agreed the deal on the basic colour, to be collected this week. However, they don't have one in the basic colour (apparently it was on the system wrong) so verbally have agreed they'll halve the cost of metallic paint.
My main point however, is that I think the one I'l now be getting is the test drive one, so on the paperwork from last week it had mileage at 0, however, I'm expecting when I turn up next week to find its got 50-100 miles on the clock.
As I'm collecting on the last day of the financial year, I reckon I've got a bit of leaway (the salesman was very keen that I came in to pay off the balance before the end of March, so I reckon they need me for their targets!)Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Well Toyota will only accept a car for return by the dealer if it has less than 125 miles on the clock as this is their limit for a car with delivery miles. Of course each manufacturer will be different. The man without a signature.0

If its a demonstrator, you will be the second owner - yes? Id have thought that alone should give you some leverage.0
