Halfords CC?

Anyone else been vexed by inept credit card sales people in Halfords today? I was in two Halfordses today (yes, I know how to have a good time) and in each one I was greeted by a young person who eventually turned out to be flogging some sort of MBNA CC. The first one was an African lad who would only mumble his way through his script at high speed so that I had no way of knowing what he was talking about, until I saw the letters MBNA on his clipboard pad, while he was trying to get my name and address out of me. Much the same thing happened in the second Halfords, although the girl who accosted me was from some other part of the world. Seems like a pretty shoddy way of getting people to sign up for credit cards to me.

  • I was in there last week just looking around and someone came upto me and asked if I wanted 10% of what I was considering buying. Of course he was trying to get me to apply for a Halfords CC. I just told him no and he left me alone, but personally I'm not used to someone just approaching me asking if I want a CC, at the checkout I can understand.

I don't think Halfords should be doing this as it may encourage someone to buy something they couldn't normally afford as they could get it now, when they couldn't pay "cash" for it, and worry about paying for it later.. If they are that desperate to sell them they should just stick to the checkouts as people at least then have the intention of buying something anyway.
